Prepare for setbacks
We test how a setback would affect your spending and commitments, then compare the changes that could help.

Pathfinder Financial Services
Retirement, company stock, an inheritance, divorce, or the loss of a spouse can bring financial questions you have never had to answer before. We help you work out what needs attention now, understand how the decisions affect one another, and carry them through.
What brought you here?
How we approach the work
We ask what could put your plans at risk: a market decline early in retirement, years of care expenses, or too much money tied to one company. Then we look at what you could do about it. The point is to help you prepare while you still have choices.
We test how a setback would affect your spending and commitments, then compare the changes that could help.
Selling stock can affect your taxes. Helping family can change what you can spend in retirement. We look at those connections before recommending what to do.
You should understand why we are recommending something, what could change the answer, and what we still do not know. If our explanation is confusing, it is our job to explain it better.
Who does the work
David Jacobs founded Pathfinder in 2003 after twenty years in artificial intelligence and computer-security research. Katherine Jacobs brings a second generation’s perspective and a sharp eye for the details that turn advice into completed work.
Pathfinder is fee-only. We are paid by clients, not for selling investments or insurance.
We are legally required to put clients’ interests first, and we explain the conflicts that remain.
The people you meet are the people who research the questions, make the recommendations, and help with follow-through.
Start a conversation
You do not need to have everything organized before getting in touch. The first conversation is free. We will listen, ask questions, and tell you plainly whether we think we can help.
